Profhilo® Berlin – Bio-Remodelling for Skin Quality and Firmness
Profhilo® is not a conventional volumising hyaluronic acid filler. It is not primarily intended to build up individual areas of the face or to shape contours. Profhilo® consists of thermally stabilised hybrid complexes of high and low molecular weight hyaluronic acid, and is used mainly to address skin quality, hydration, elasticity and firmness.
If your concern is pronounced volume loss or defined contouring, a different treatment concept is usually more appropriate. If skin quality, elasticity and hydration are what matter to you, Profhilo® may be a suitable option.
What is Profhilo®?
Profhilo® is a medical device made by the Italian manufacturer IBSA. It contains 64 mg of hyaluronic acid per 2 ml (32 mg/ml) in the form of thermally stabilised hybrid complexes of high and low molecular weight hyaluronic acid, produced without a chemical cross-linking agent such as BDDE.
Because the complexes flow readily, they disperse through the tissue after injection rather than building volume at a single point. The focus is skin quality, not shape.
How is Profhilo® administered?
For treatment of the mid and lower face, Profhilo® can be injected using the BAP technique: five defined injection points per side of the face. These points are chosen so the product can disperse through the tissue from a small number of injection sites, while avoiding larger vascular and nerve structures where possible.
Other regions, such as the neck, follow their own injection patterns. Which technique is appropriate depends on your anatomy and treatment goal.

Who is Profhilo® for?
Suitable when skin quality, elasticity and hydration are the priority.
Profhilo® is not a substitute for a targeted lifting or volumising procedure. Where there is pronounced skin laxity or significant volume loss, other approaches may be more appropriate depending on the findings – for example Ultherapy PRIME®, a biostimulator such as Sculptra® or Radiesse®, or a filler.
The treatment is not performed during pregnancy or breastfeeding, in cases of autoimmune disease, where there is known hypersensitivity to any component of the product, or where there is acute inflammation or infection in the treatment area. Certain concurrent aesthetic treatments may also require an interval. Individual suitability is assessed by a physician beforehand.
What results can you expect?
Profhilo® addresses the condition of the skin – hydration, elasticity and firmness. Results build over weeks rather than days, and can be subtle.
Clinical studies show effects over several months, but do not allow a reliable duration to be quoted for every patient. We therefore assess the course individually.
Where longer-term structural build-up is the priority, Sculptra® or Radiesse® are the more appropriate procedures. Combination with PRP and PRF is also possible.

Small raised areas, redness or swelling may be visible at the injection points immediately after treatment. These are generally temporary; small bruises can remain visible somewhat longer.

Profhilo® and Profhilo® Structura are not the same
Standard Profhilo® (32 mg/ml) is used primarily to treat skin quality. Profhilo® Structura is a more highly concentrated, separate formulation at 45 mg/ml, developed for deeper structural change in the face and for subcutaneous adipose tissue. Which variant is appropriate depends on anatomy and treatment goal, and is assessed by a physician.
